About me

Hi, my name is David Watson and I am a computer software architect by day, and a videographer and photographer by day and night.  I was born here in Utah, and love it here.  I love the people, the landscapes, and the accessibility to the western half of the united states. I am married with 3 children.  My youngest is going to be a senior in high school this year.  My day job is to design and implement user interfaces for software products.  I have spent my years understanding the ever changing viewpoint of the usability of software.  I love it.  I love taking the complex and trying to make it simple.

I am a technology fan/geek who scans all the blogs and rumor sites nightly.  I look for the exciting and new and try to balance that love with my checkbook. Although my love is much greater than my checkbook.  I am one of those people who will step out on the bleeding edge and try new things, sometimes to my own peril, but most times, to my delight.  I can consume a lot of information quickly and deeply.  I like to be brief because everyone like me needs honest, entertaining and short information. I am hoping that I can share some of my stories with you that will help you to follow, or to choose to make your own path.

I am a recovering forum junkie who always found forums to be frustrating... most are filled with people who claim to be experts leading noobs who are either frustrated with reality, or angry with themselves and everyone for their lack of understanding and knowledge.  I have to remind myself that I was once a noob.  And I was probably very very annoying.  Sorry to all those who tried to help.

So I am going to write about what I know, and what I don't know.  I am not a huge social media type of guy.  I think it is because most people seem to be very narcissistic and I am personally not.  I am fairly reserved when it comes to sharing private types of information.  Plus most of the time I end up wanting to critique peoples photos that they post. But I don't.  Most people don't see the things that most photographers see.

So here is a short list of what I have learned over these many years.

Working with hardware and software is hard - if you are doing it right.  It has always been hard.  It will always be hard. You have to accept that things will not be easy.  Hard work can be fun, if you believe in what you are doing.  Chances are, that if you don't believe, you won't succeed anyway.

Believe in what you are doing, even if you don't know where it will take you.

There will always be people who want to correct you, or change your mind. Listen to them, weigh their opinion, and then make up your own mind.  Disagreement leads to progress, if we listen. Don't listen to people who just hate.  They are the damned souls who have chosen their destructive paths.  It's not worth it to try and change them.

Shoot people who love to be shot - and make them look good.  Happy clients are your best chance to succeed.

Always be open to talking to anyone, chances are that you can learn something from everyone.

Don't be afraid to ask for what you want.  If people don't know what you want, how can you expect them to help you get it.
